We’re still amped from last night but we’re going again tonight and will post a review after the second viewing. In this installment, Michael Angarano in the LA Times, a look behind the scenes at the vis fx, more from Jackie and Jet, and Jackie’s five favorite flicks!! Plus, Kung Fu Cinema weighs in with a review and a Yifei Liu speaks! All after the cut…

Yifei Liu, Golden Sparrow in The Forbidden Kingdom, is a huge star in Asia from her work in music, TV and movies. The Forbidden Kingdom is the first film that will introduce Yifei (who also goes by Crystal Liu Yifei) to international and western audiences.

YFL

She gave an interview to Chinese news service Xinlang Media and talks about her character, working with Jackie Chan and Jet Li, dubbing in Mandarin for the Chinese release and scenes you might only see on the DVD, and we’ve got a translation thanks to AngeLLina from the forum Crystallized!

Michael A and Jet

Michael Angarano, who plays Jason Tripitikas aka the Seeker in The Forbidden Kingdom, is doing the interview circuit for a movie he’s starring in called Snow Angels. This is a kid who lived any martial arts fan’s geekgasm of not just working with two of the gods of contemporary martial arts but learning to fight from them. He talked to IESB.net about his character and his experience working on the film. What did he say?

Looking around the interwebs I stumbled on a trailer report at BeyondHollywood.com that also had a couple of official stills I hadn’t seen before. They show a closer look at the four warriors crossing the desert, and one nice close-up of Golden Sparrow (Yifei Liu) playing her lute-like instrument.

The first and so far only teaser poster for The Forbidden Kingdom hit the interwebs today, depicting Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Michael Angarano and Yifei Liu – the four warriors – approaching what can only be the temple where the Monkey King is entombed. It’s an evocative image and a great hint of things to come! Look for it below the fold…

A very cool video popped up online, or at least onto my radar, at the Asian site Star Online. Interviews with Jackie, Jet, the director Rob Minkoff, Michael Angarano and footage from the big press conference they all had. This story gives a lot of insight about Jet and Jackie’s thoughts going into this movie, what it was like to work together, what the story’s about and why they made it. Really an awesome piece on the movie and highly recommended for anyone who, like me, is looking out for it in 2008…

Watch it at Star Online. Found on Counting Down and IMDb.

Some users on the message board for Pro-Networks posted the excellent first cast pic with the following post (with a link farther down to the second). The origin site for these pics (and others) is here.

Here is some exclusive info on the current status of production on The Forbidden Kingdom.

Many movies have about 25-35 shooting days, with 30 being common. Generally the actor would be on location for about a month and a half. This especially applies to small independent films.

Well, this is no little indie. The Forbidden Kingdom is a big movie, and has a production schedule of 100 days. They have completed about 75 days of production right now.

While the majority of production is done, there is still a 31 day fight sequence to produce. That’s longer than the entire shooting schedule on many films.

Most from the U.S. have now been in China for 4 1/2 months and have not been back home since.
